Christians - when you read the Gospels, do you question if the Bible is true?

What I mean is, look at the names of the people who wrote the Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke %26amp; John.





Those don't sound like 2000-year old hebrew names to me. Those are more modern English names.





Now I can understand that they could have changed the names to make the Bible seem more relevant to the masses.





But if they've changed that, then what else could they have changed to get their interpretation of their message across? How might the resulting message, changed over the course of two millennia, differ from the original message?Christians - when you read the Gospels, do you question if the Bible is true?
I think you do have a valid point. I am a Christian, but I too wondered that same thing. Especially when the whole Da Vinci code theory came out a couple of years ago. And also the main thing I thought of is there are quite a few 'versions' of the Bible where ,the wording has been changed to fit today's current speech patterns. ( King James, New International, etc.) But I believe that because God 'coded' the Bible , He would also make sure that it was never totally changed to ensure the salvation of people that were looking for it. They are common names BECAUSE of the Gospels.
bible is a dumb fairytale about a little boy named jesus and all the little problems he gets into, its a good fantasy read in my opinion

The modern english names you refer to were ';borrowed'; from the ancient names. Today, people name their children after Biblical people, not the opposite way around. People 2,000 years ago didn't name their children after kids who are living today!





Remember also that you are reading the English translation. Go back and study Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic if you want the original names.
The English translators changed them to English names.





Yeshua was changed to Jesus.


Cephas was changed to Peter.


Yehudah was changed to Judas.





The language was also changed but the message or the essence of the message remains the same.





But if you are unbeliever, even a dead person will come out from the grave and tell you there is God you still will not believe.
I have never doubted that the Bible is the true Word of God.
I firmly believe that the Bible is the word of God through inspired writers
They don;t because they have been translated.


Even nowadays Christians from the Middle East call Jesus Isa, Abraham - Ibrahim, Joseph - Jusuf, etc.





As for the rest - I am sure that the Bible we have now probably isn't even close to the original and esp the Gospels. I believe that it is all interpretation of how people saw it before. I am also pretty sure they took out things that didn;t agree with their way of life, etc. - some to delude the masses and some probably with the best intentions.
no i dont question if the Bible is true. there may be some differences in translation/interpretaion in some places esp Old Testament. But New Testament has been very thoroughly researched by scholars -

Its called English. Can you read Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, Coptic, Syriac or any of the 100 other languages the Bible has been translated to? The King James version of the Bible was written in the 16th century and this was the language of the time. All you need to understand Biblical names is a lexicon. No. I no longer question if the Bible is true. I've been studying it in its entirity for the last 11 going on 12 years. no, i don't question it. i don't think they changed the names; i think they were translated from their original language into those names...we probably have those names in modern english because they were biblical, not the other way around....





over the course of 2 millennia, there have been only few discrepencies in the bible, and most of those were in punctuation, not content; as was proved true when the dead sea scrolls were found. it's hard to have the message wrong when there are so many copies of it from the original manuscript. there are considerably less copies of the oddyssey from the manuscript written, yet no one doubts its validity.
Yes that is their English names but back then, they went by their Greek names. The translation is for our benefit.
The names have most likely been anglesized over time. They aren't modern names, they're timeless. People have been christened with Bibilical names for hundreds of years.





Bear in mind that Jesus, Yeshua and Joshua are all variations of the same name.

Part of being a Christian is never questioning. Questioning is how Satan turns people away from Jesus.
It has already been shown that the bible has indeed been mistranslated.





The word 'hell' is a prime example. In the original language it doesn't mean what it is taken to mean by many nowadays.
What ever may be the religion. you need to question before accepting it.
