It's to establish CM Punk as a major heel. Just listen to amount of heel reaction he keeps getting after all his attacks on Jeff. The difference with this one is this is Jeff's ';farewell for now'; and gets attacked on his way out, so this makes CM Punk look more of a ';I hate him no matter what'; type of deal.





BA - Jeff Hardy fans, but honestly speaking, the WWE themselves. Jeff is their most popular superstar (yes, even more popular than Cena). Jeff is the WWE's top draw and most marketable superstar, so losing him might hurt some numbers.
He attacked him because WWE wants you to hate CM punk the most out of everyone on the Smackdown roster (like they want you to hate Randy Orton on the RAW roster) Edge was that guy until he got injured so CM punk took his spot. Jeff will return by wrestlemania. he just needed a little break

It was to get him heel heat. Nothing would piss fans off more than a guy attacking Jeff when he's saying goodbye. Kayfabe speaking, it was smart of Punk.





BQ - I'll miss him, but i'm excited to see Punk/Taker. That being said, I like Jeff chasing the title, the Smackdown main event scene is going to be pretty dry.
