Medicaid question - is it true??

Ok, im on Medicaid for my pregnancy. This is my third baby. I know that in order for medicaid to cover getting your tubes tied you have to have three kids or be 25. Im 21, but again, this is my third. My cousin said the state will ';make'; you get them tied... she said in Illinois they ';made'; her after her third. Im not so sure i want my tubes tied.... i dont want any more children, but the thought that i could NEVER have any more at the age of 22 would seriously depress me. I had considered getting the 5 year IUD after the baby is born, but if they are going to ';make'; me tie my tubes im a little nervous... that cant be legal.





Anyone know?





no snide comments please... i work and pay taxes too... but my job only offers limited medical that costs WAY more than i can afford even with my hubbys income...Medicaid question - is it true??

No...they can't make you. No one can make you do anything you don't want too! Don't worry. When and if you ever want to get your tubes tied, it will be totally up to you. As far as them paying for it...I don't actually think they will pay for that. Maybe that was the only way to get it paid for by medicade or something.
its definately not legal in this country to make you get your tubes tied. medicaid wont do that...i know my sister in law was in your situation (covered by medicaid as well) and she has 5 children...her tubes arent tied yet. theres no limit to the number of kids you can have:)
They cant MAKE you do anything to your body you dont want to do. There is no way they can make you do something to your body that youre not willing to do, and a doctor cant do it with out your permission.
They can't make you do something you dont want to do just make sure you make that clear to your doc that you don't want your tubes tied!
in oklahoma u have to be 21 or have 3 kids before you can but they cannot make you do that. ur cousin dont know what shes talking about..
No one can make you get your tubes tied. Its terrible that someone convinced your cousin that they could. If anyone from medicaid even brings up getting your tubes tied call a lawyer.

The state can't make you get your tubes tied, however, they can refuse to pay after 3 kids.
No one can make you get your tubes tied under any circumstance. I think your cousin was misled or she lied to you

A sterilization performed primarily for contraceptive purposes is within the in overall Medicaid spending.





So they need your consent and they wont do it for anyone younger than 21 (3 kids or not). If you have anymore questions about it I would definitely contact your case worker or Medicaid ';customer service';. Seriously medicaid making you get sterilized is like medicaid making you get an abortion everytime you get pregnant. They have no right, and nor would they dare to take away the right of you having more children.
