Questions about the heirachy in true blood?

I don't understand how Eric can be around 1000 years old, yet he only gets a small district in Louisiana. Then godric gives his Dallas district to isabella, who can't be older. So then what gives? How does the rank structure in that show work?Questions about the heirachy in true blood?
You have to understand that in the book, Godric is not even sheriff and has an incredibly small part and is not Eric's maker.

The vampire heirarchy is very, very political. Although age plays a part in it, it is also about politics and who you know are who is in favor and has more power. What they haven't explained yet in the show is also that each state has a monarchy, so Eric is actually accountable to the Queen of Louisiana who they will be introducing later on in the series. Sheriff is one of the highest offices you can get as a vampire without marrying a royal. When Godric abdicated his sheriff status, he had a right to choose his successor. Seeing that Eric is already a sheriff in Louisiana, he would not have given it to him but rather someone who has served him and the area well already.Questions about the heirachy in true blood?
Well from what I remember Eric said Godric could have been more then a sheriff but he turned it down. Because of his age Godric was allowed to name the person to take over as Sheriff. You also have to remember there is the magistrate and I don't remember them mentioning how old that guy was. I know in the first season there was a mention of a woman older then Eric but they didn't name her. It can get confusing, but from what I can tell it is done by age.
Each state has a King or Queen, who have gained the position various ways. It is all politics, minus the voting. Who is stronger than who comes in to play, but also who is smarter than who, who can out move who. Who can take over who. It is much like old school monarchies from Europe, he who is bigger, stronger, smarter with a better army wins. Eric's area is actually NOT small, he has a large portion of Northern LA. I believe we will be meeting the Queen of LA before this season is over. I think Bill, the liar, goes to seek her advice about maryanne.
