I've heard from alot of people and read alot of articles bashing Bella for being too clingy or Edward for being masochistic or breaking dawn for being ';off'; or ';macabre';. well I'm kinda sick of the Stephenie Meyer bashing. These are just books, as much as i hate to say that. these characters are well rounded and the whole book is beautifully written. there's romance, horror, fantasy and much more. I'm so sick of people hating on these books. i thought they were wonderful and i cant get enough of them. I just feel like everyone is hating on SM and the books lately and its so stupid! people want more horror from twilight but thier upset with the baby scene. people want more love and then hate the gushyness. people hate the gushyness but then get angry when the sex scene wasn't ';descriptive'; enough. i wish everyone would leave the books alone. they are known as the best books of their time, along with harry potter and lord of the rings! people should be less judgmental. Any thoughts?
PS: im sorry for the lenght but i just read a really hateful yahoo question and then a horrible EW article on Breaking Dawn. i guess i bassically used Yahoo answers as a blog, :) Oh well. Big Twilight series question, only for true fans.
Let them have it Natalie! I so agree with you. If they we ';TRUE'; fans of the ';Twilight'; saga (which includes ';Breaking Dawn'; people) then they would love how the characters came through everything!!! Meyer wrote the ending long before you ever read the others so deal with what was always meant to be. People need more but I think (and apparently Meyers did too) that these character went through sooooo much to get their happy ending. Bella and Edward were from the beginning soul mates and ended as equals finally!!! I am glad you vented on the haters.
FYI Mistress she spelled Stephenie right you did not!Big Twilight series question, only for true fans.
I completely agree! I personally loved Breaking Dawn, I thought the plot twist and writing was beautifully done, and i loved seeing the characters mature and the happy ending was also a plus. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but when your opinions start to bash Stephenie Meyer then that is just disrespectful. People can criticize but respect Stephenie and her work.
If you're allowed to express your love, then we're allowed to express our hate.
And for the record, feel free to compare her to Rowling. It's a ridiculous comparison - no sparkling vampire will ever compare to Harry Potter - but stay away from the works of Tolkien with Meyer, okay? Seriously, I think I just felt him roll in his grave to have Aragorn and Arwen compared to Edward and Bella.
I loved the book. I don't see what the fuss is about. It was one of my favorite of the series. Twilight being the first, then Breaking Dawn a close second. I can't believe people are being rude about it. I mean come on, they wanted it to happen and yet it happens and people get pissed off.
I was happy with the book. Very much so.
Im not a Twilight fan but I had to read this outta curiousity. I do agree with u that people dont just need to stop bashing it, but just stop talking about it and posting questions on Y!A. I didnt like it at all, but its done with and Meyer already got paid, its over. Altho I do gotta say Twilight is not in the same league at all with HP or Lord of the Rings.
AGREED.
me love the TWILIGHT SAGA. :):)
i love searching over the websites for twilight stuff..
but i agree with you ^o) , on august 3rd i looked for breaking dawn stuff on yahoo answers and there were alot of hate on it -____-';
i thought it was great , just like all the others. except... new moon was the one i liekd the least, im not that much of a fan of jacob black . GO TEAM EDWARD!!! :)
i agree it's so ridiculous they act like this is real life like they are bella or they are jacob or edward ------------------ but there not leave the books alone they are after all just books not made for you to judge but to enjoy and if you didn't like it sell your copy and get over it
What's the question?
I TRULY agree with you. Those are my same thoughts. I think that SM was already supposed to have finish the book because she had a contract for only 4 books. If she were to make it with more drama that will mean that she will need a 5th book to finish up. I think breaking dawn is a wonderful book in every way. The sex scene was perfect that she didn't describe it. I think that I wouldn't have want to read into detail. I like the fact that they actually had a baby and not just adopt. I really like the book and you really have to be a fan to actually understand the book. I love SM and I really would never want to let her down.
I agree that Breaking Dawn was an amazing book - I'm just disappointed that the series is over! I also thought that Breaking Dawn should have been split ino two books because then we could have more description where we needed it. I really need to read the book again cuz i got it at a midnight party and was up till 6 in the morning finishing it - i didn't really get much...heeheehee oh well. It was a good book but i think that people who didn't like it are just angry that the series is over.
I don't know. Everyone had different opinions as to how they wanted the storyline to go. They may hate the fact that the series was too predictable, too cliche, but that's what the author intended! Each of the books was based off another one, for crying out loud! Of course it's going to be cliche! (Romeo and Juliet was the basis for New Moon) Personally, I think the author's intention was pure entertainment and not to make one think or question one's deepest beliefs. :) I'm a sucker for those kinds of books and am not a huge love story fan, but to be honest, I enjoyed the series. It was nice :)
i agree
everyone needs to stop with the obnoxious comments
i understand everyone has an opinion but if ur gonna say horrible things then people should keep it to themeselves
there is no way that stephenie meyer can please everyone that reads her book you either like it or u don't i personally think the seris is one of the best i've ever read
the ending of breaking dawn isn't the ending i wanted but that doesn't make the book any less wonderful it is still an amazing seris and stephenie meyer is one of my all time favorite authors
The only reason I've been known to hate on the books is because I've seen one of my friends take her love of the book to a whole other level by basically pretending she was Bella (to the point that, when her ';Edward'; broke up with her, she found a replacement ';Jacob';, then dumped him and took her ';Edward'; back) on an almost daily basis.
Moreover, the saga isn't relative to society at all. There is a fine line between obsession and love and Bella and Edward (or ';Bedward'; as I've been known to call them in my haste to get out my thoughts before getting smacked in the face by the entire population of Edward fans) like to cross that line and then hurry back to the other side just as quickly. People don't act that way in real life. Not to mention that vampires and werewolves do not exist, making the idea of any ';mortal'; girl being in love with either creature completely fictional. Even if they did exist, the idea is still way too far-fetched to be plausible.
Stephanie (the spelling you should know, being a true fan and all) messes with the conventions of vampirism to a ridiculous extreme, creating an almost entirely new character in her wake. She also pits vampires and werewolves against each other, and aside from movies like ';Underworld'; and even, in a sense ';Van Helsing';, there is no ';mythological proof';, if you will, that the two creatures hate each other at all (in fact, werewolves are rarely mentioned in vampire histories, and vice versa).
Have you read ';New Dawn';, the collection of essays written by other popular authors of YA books discussing the series that Borders printed not too long ago? If not, I highly suggest picking it up, simply because the first essay is fantastic (and I thoroughly agree) and most of the others will answer your questions.
well i feel so lame because ive just now started the twilight series. i read twilight and new moon in under twelve hours(new moon i read in ten haha) but im on eclipse now i sorta got introuble for staying up till 4 in the mrning reading. haha butttt i'm in love with edward cullen and the whole series in general. i definitely need to finish them. they're some of the best books ive read along with harry potter of course.they are two totally different things but they still are the best. hehe :] do you agree that edward cullen is simply amazing? too bad he isnt real haha. well sorry for this to drag on but i do agree with you that people should not disrespect hehe
Well, sorry, I'm not a fan. But I got too curious and just had to read the question anyway lol. But I assure you that I won't be rude about this. I really do try to be honest, but not disrespectful to other's opinions whenever I state my own opinion. I hope you don't mind.
I don't think Meyer's books are beautifully written. At all. I'm really sorry, but you cannot compare them to books that are truly beautifully written like those by Shakespeare, Jane Austen or Saint Exup茅ry. Modern authors like Kidd, Burroughs and Golden are also fantastic authors. Meyers just isn't. Her ability to use large words does not make her a great writer.
I also wouldn't call the characters well-rounded. They are pure Mary and Gary Sue characters. That means that they are perfect little lovebirds who are pretty and talented and really everything anybody would ever dream of and they live happily ever after together in the end. Also, the characters seem rather contrived. Seriously? Bella Swan? That's like, as contrived as it gets.
I also can't stand how the books are, in my opinion, latching on to the false pretense that all girls need boyfriends. Bella needs her Edward to get her through tough times and Edward always needs to rescue her when the going gets rough. It's just like One Tree Hill (which I also hate). Girls do not need boyfriends to get through life. It's fine if they do have boyfriends, but it's very important not to become dependent on them, like Bella did.
And the other thing that really bothered me was the vampires. Vampires should be, according to their original literature creators Sheridan Le Fanu and Bram Stoker, very dark, horrifying beasts. They should have freakishly pale skin, black eyes, fangs, slick black hair, long fingernails, be thin and tall and wear a black tuxedo (including tailcoat) with a tophat. They are also supposed to seduce their victims and then kill them or turn them into other vampires. That's what vampires are and that's what they always have been. And, believe it or not, the story of Dracula was based off of a real man; Vlad the Impaler, Prince of Wallachia. Vlad was a madman who killed not only the opposing Ottomans, Germans and Turks, but also some of his own people. He placed their dead and mutilated bodies on spears and stuck them in the castle yard by the thousands for his viewing pleasure. He even roasted and boiled humans alive and often found pleasure in physically torturing innocent people. His wife was notorious for having specific beautiful women murdered and brought to her. She drained their blood in a bathtub and bathed in it, believing their beauty to wash off on herself. Therefore I have significant trouble seeing vampires being cute high school students who sparkle in the sunlight.
I'm sorry that the last part of this was so graphic, but I thought it was important for you to understand where we who dislike Twilight may be coming from. There is nothing wrong with Twilight, and you can read it as often as you please. We are simply entitled to not like it, just as you are entitled to love it.
